SMOKE TEST INSPECTIONS
Smoke testing is often considered the method of choice in determining unwanted sources of rainwater entering a collection system. These sources could result from illegal connections, storm sewer cross connections or pipe defects. Wastewater flow exceeding the originally designed flow for a treatment facility can result in operational and regulatory problems for the operating district. These costly point sources of water can easily be detected by smoke testing the system.
Non-hazardous smoke agents are introduced to the collection system on a forced air basis through existing manholes. Observations are made where smoke exists in the collection system. Smoke leaks are then documented and recorded for further evaluation. Data is compiled and delivered in either digital or printed form to the customer.
